About the project

The Capacity Building of Rural and Remote Communities to Manage their Mental Health project is funded by the Collaborative Partnership for Farming and Fishing Health and Safety Program, managed by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) and is being undertaken by the Centre for Rural and Remote Area Health at USQ. Collaborators in the project include Centacare, RHealth, QMDC and Rod Saal Trust.

The project is being undertaken in two phases:

Phase 1
a) Assess the extent and nature of mental health issues in drought/climate variability in affected rural and remote communities;
b) Identify the appropriate and effective means of capacity building in these communities to deal with mental health issues;
Phase 2
c) Initiate a program to build community capacity to manage mental health effectively.
